Inspire your child's imagination and self-expression with fun hands-on activities
Children love being creative, getting messy and exploring new materials. That is why I have created ‘The Kids Art Studio’- a fun place where kids can do this, without you needing to worry about setting up the activity or dealing with the mess afterwards.
I am a qualified child career and have worked for a numerous years as a family day career, prior to having my own 2 little children.
Each art class will be under an educational theme like ‘Shapes and Colors’, ‘Continents of the world’, etc which will run consecutively to the school term. The number of sessions held will be dependent to the chosen theme eg. ‘Continents of the world’ will run for 7 weeks. One off classes for special celebrations like Christmas, Easter and Mother’s day will also be offered from time to time. Each class will reflect the theme and will be filled with different fun and exciting art activities for your child to explore.
The goal of the classes is to introduce the children (and the adults who bring them) to a variety of art experiences in which the process is valued more highly than any finished product. You and your child will have the opportunity to explore the wondrous world of art together while learning, experiencing and enjoying the creative process.
As the classes, run under a theme it also teaches your child new things and they develop the knowledge they need to understand the world.
Each class can either be booked separately or can be book in the theme block to receive a discount. However booking and payment upfront is essential to secure your child’s place.
From time to time special workshops will also be offered for babies and young primary school children with the possibility of setting up classes for this age groups in the future.
Classes cost $15 per child including all materials and $10 for each additional child from the same immediate family.
Classes are designed for children aged 18m-4years (with an accompanying adult) and each session is designed to last 45min.
The Classes are held at ‘The Kids Arts Studio” which is located in an air-conditioned granny flat separate to my own house in Yeppoon.
What does a typical class session look like?
1. We start the class with welcoming each child by name
2. Depending on the theme I either read a picture book, we sing a song or we look at different objects
3. I present the art materials and suggested activities
4. After that, the class is pretty much self-directed. The kids interact with the art materials however they want to (as long as it doesn't do any harm to themselves, other people or the room) until they're ready to leave. For some kids (on some days, with some projects), this may not be the full 45 minutes. Others stay until I have to gently nudge them out the door before the next class begins.
